Stock 460 with a turbo question.

I have a friend that has a on3 perf. kit on a stock 5.0L. Never had it on the dyno but we figure roughly 425WHP.
So we got to talking 'bout my '88 notch with a stock 1976 460+C6 and why not throw a turbo on it.
His stock E7TE heads flow like crappy 165-175 intake cfms. My D3Ve flows (I think) 235cfm. I know alot of you should be able to correct me on that.
Anyways I'm not looking for crazy FI power just something a lil different than the norm. Oh yea this is a budget build car. I know turbo and budget 
But if his stock 302 could make round 500 ponies toda crank. A 460 with a straight up TC/Summit or Jegs cam/good intake with a blow thru-carb should be able to make just a few more 
I'm thinking -Log style headers and 76mm turbo(cheap rebuilt one). Heard of guys using ht3b turbos off cummins trucks. Any truth to that?? thanks for any input on my crazy idea. Oh yea Hi to everyone my first post yeahhh!!

Depending on your hp goals, a single HT3B could work. Two of them could work too

With a DIY approach, a high torque and ~700 hp engine could be done 'inexpensively'.
I doubt you'll find many black/white answers from others on this project. Since you'll be doing the work, most of it depends on you -- your fabbing ability, available tools/equipment, tuning ability (wideband O2, reading spark plugs, ect), starting foundation for the vehicle being considered, and overall knowledge of the do/don't with turbos. Done right, it could last a while. Done wrong, it won't.
In theory, though, turbo + wastegate + BOV + log header (weld els) + tubing + a modded Holley carb + fuel system + good tune will work just as well on a 460 as it does on a SBF.

The first weak link I see in the 1976 460 is those cast pistons.
Block and crank should be no problem.
Ported D3 heads work well also.
Gotta change the pistons tho.

If he can keep his tune good, the pistons should be fine. Forged pistons are normally considered a requirement because they aren't as brittle and handle detonation much better than cast or hyper pistons.
On the other side, though, the odds of a low-dollar, DIY turbo project getting a good tune without a little rattle at some point it quite low.

I'm reading this with some interest as I'm building a TT 460 for my street car.
I too have a late blosk, effectively stock crank, rods and pistond and going to use home worked D3 heads with roller rockers and have a couple fo cams to shoose from.
I'm goig to use dual quads set up as a suck thru, and I have been wondering about pistons.]
Where can you get stock size and shape forged pistons and how much are they?

I just happen to have a turbo off a 351m400. I was thinking low boost high velocity( 2 1/4 inch pipes) would make for a long lived street machine with 14 second or better capabilities ...

Both Probe and Speed Pro both make sets of dished pistons that are reasonable priced.
