Which fuels do you all use ?

Post  RetroJim on January 31st 2010, 9:27 pm

Has anyone had any experience with using "Propane" for their fuel ? I drove propane trucks and I do know that the propane is about 107 to 112 octane . I know their is a conversion for the GM's that I drove but anyone know if one is for Ford . With that much octane should perform very well PLUS it is COLD ! Show produce some high HP engines cheaper than fuel . No carbon at all and got over twice the life out of a stock Chev 350 . Just change the carb and did the propane set up . It's a very cold liquid that changes to a very cold gas .
Just a thought !

I like the "nitropropane" in my alky................... Very Happy make car go very fast.

I think some of the Aussie guys on the other site use it.

I use Q16. Works very well. Runs cool, makes a $hit load of power, but cost a bunch. We also have to pretty much treat our motor likes it's an alky motor. Don't have to change the oil as much.

I Use C25 fuel,It's very expensive,But if you base it on cost per pass it's actualy pretty reasonable, the C25 i buy is in 5gallon(17.50 Gallon) cans.I can drive to the stagging lanes,do a burnout, stage car, make 8th mile pass,go across weight scales, and return to pits and only use a little over 1gt.That brakes down to about $4.50 a pass. This is all based on a 900hp 440In Yates C3 headed Windsor in a 2870 lb 10.5 tire car. Also shifts at 9100rpms. How i dont think there is any other fuels that are that efficient out there. When i used alcohol on a simular engine i would use about 1 and1/2 gallons per pass,Depending on were you bought the alcohol that still at the best cost over $3.00 per pass.Every engine is different but for my combo C25 works great. And is a lot safer.because i how run a 1 gallon fuel cell and if the ever is a problem i would rather have less than a gallon of fuel fire to deal with than 5 gallons of alcohol, thats hard to see burning.Hope that helps.

At the recent BBF Winter Tech Seminar, Don and Donnie Bowles were talking about Susan (Daughter of Jack Roush) running Propane in her car next year.

Few years back my chassis guy got a race cart in trade for some parts... And had some nitropropane from who knows where...

I had never heard of it before then, but next thing I knew we were all ripping the cart around pushing a pretty cool flame outta that Briggs' pipe! Very Happy Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Hahaha... the memories... that stuff really did give the cart a kick in the ass - we gained a few MPH outside the shop Laughing
