drive to move the ring down farther? HELP!

The oil pump is a Melling M84 and the pickup is a Miloden 18645. Oil pan is a factory front sump pan. 8.75" sump depth. The bottom of the pickup is 7.25" off the oil pan rail of the block. I understand that you want no more then a half inch of clearence off the bottom of the pan. The first pic is of my oil pump and pickup.
