68 429 timing issues

Post  Ford429f150 on Mon 2 May 2011 - 7:29

Hey guys, I bought a 79 ford f150 last fall with a 68 Lincoln 429 motor. I just rebuilt the motor on the weekend. I ended up replacing a few parts such as water pump, timing chain, oil pump, lower intake, etc. I also put in a new msd coil with msd distributor and 750 cfm edelbrock. Motor was running fine before except for a few leaks and minor stuff.

When all back together, I was having some problems getting it to idle to get the timing right. I'm almost sure that it is supposed to be set to 6 degrees. But when it was barely idling it was pumping way to much gas in the motor and seemed like it wasn't running on all cylinders.

My best guess is timing issue, too much fuel and gap in spark plugs. I know the distributor comes with different springs for the advance. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Better yet. What advance curve and advance stop bushing is correct for a stock 429 with just a new lower intake and carb. This is for a msd distributor and blaster coil. This is what I am really looking for help with. I've never dealt with this kind of distributor.
