Damon:
You couldn't slow down to a 6.50 ?
I see several low 6 sec. cars doing it.

I've tried taking timing out, shifting early etc... Doesn't take much ET off my car... Only other option is a mechanical throttle stop which is a NO NO in most classes...

I've always wondered how hard it is to slow a fast car like yours down a half a second or so.
I see what you're saying now.
The '91 Mustang Coupe I am building now for the 7.50 index races will have Scott Keown's Ford crate 514 in it and he said he ran 6.30's with a 4.10 gear and glide.
I will be using a C-6 and 3.73's, but I still am looking for ways to hold back enough to run a dead on 7.50.

7.50? wow, that's a LOT of ET to scrub off... May try a tight converter so it's sluggish out of the hole but then comes on about 100' out and will out mph everyone in the class...

Can you adjust your throttle cable so it cant actually go wide open?

I am hoping to pull about 102 mph thru the traps.
Everybody else in the class runs about 91 mph.
My convertor will have about a 3700 stall, so I guess I could bounce the engine off a 3 step @ 3000 rpm for 100 feet or so ? I don't even know if that's possible to be consistent and not damage the engine.

As long as the throttle adjustment is done before the car stages, I suppose it would be legal. I do know that "down-track" activated throttle stops are illegal.
I tried disconnecting the secondarys on the 750 Edelbrock carb on a 460 car of mine. On all 4 barrells, it ran an 8.35 and then I disconnected the secondaries and ran a pass 15 minutes later and it ran an 8.70 something. So, it didn't lose too much e.t.
Strangely enough, with the secondaries disconnected, the car had a quicker 60 foot time !
Must be something about increased port velocity which increased engine torque output. At any rate, it told me that my sec. are coming in too early.
