3.73 gears

Post  Tennessee Bullitt on June 27th 2011, 8:14 pm

I finally got back out to the track, I believe I am going to drop my rear gears due to some footbrake testing I did. I was coming up on the converter to 2,000 rpm's first run then to about 2,200 rpms on the second run and sure enough taking off dead idle at 1,200 rpms on the third run I did the best 60' time. My 60's in order was 1.45, 1.48, 1.42, and on the idle run I was 3 to 4 tenths faster down the track. I am also running through the gears really fast. My trans shifts so good it dosen't really loose a lot of rpm's. Shifting at 6,000 I will run into 3rd before the 1/8 mile trap.

Does it seem like droping the rear gear will be able to ride the torq more and pull harder as I go down the track? I tried to run a 6.60 for a declaired index race and I caught the truck at half track, bliped the throttle 3 times and coasted on through the traps without touching the brakes and here was the results for this pass which was taking off at idle....

60' 1.42
330' 4.1689
594' 6.0950
1/8 6.57
1/8 mph 94.42

The other passes netted two 6.54 passes, one of them at 105.75 and the second at 105.89.

Am I thinking correct on this idea?

I have a spec built PTC converter, I mis caculated my weight by 300#'s. It's lighter than what I told them. The converter works, I can get into 3rd if I am shifting at 6,000. At BG last year I was hitting the 1000' mark I guess ther about when I was topped out. IT was not to far from the finish line.
