To "Bee" or not to "Bee"...?

Post  ThndrChkn on July 28th 2011, 8:35 am

Ok, I fully understand the reasoning for running a Danny Bee, and the advantages, yada, yada. But on a high HP app, is it necessary? I run a very tight maintenance regimine anyway, so I figured I could run a good billet chain set up until the budget better allows for the Danny Bee. Or should I just bite the bullet and put the build off a little longer until I can get a Danny Bee...? It won't be assembled quite this this year anyhow, but just doing some crunching.

Since your in no rush to get it done, I'd get one. Its just another tuning aid. Only negative about a bee is the cost, but its an investment, and a damn good one.

There are plenty of high HP BBFs out there doing just fine with timing chains, but....the "cool factor" was a deciding point when I was pondering the same topic a few years ago. After installing Danny Bee belt drives on both engines, I realized the value in having a well made part (system) that is trouble free and does exactly what it is supposed to.
As stated in earlier replies....the $$ is the largest negative point. Other than that, you just have to be very careful when working on the front of the engine area. I take lots of care not to let tools, nuts, bolts or anything else small get in the belt drive area. affraid

I own a couple of them..... good investment and awsome parts, but they are not "Required", a good chain will get-r-done too.

I think until the tracks around here do something about their pits, I'll just stay with the FRPP timing chain set-up. The only 2 tracks I go to, both have gravel pits. I just cringe every time I think about driving through the pits and picking up a rock. Evil or Very Mad It's bad enough having to look at all of the rock chips from going to both places. Shoot, my wheel tubs look like somebody used them for target practice with their BB gun. I sure hope the race I'm putting on here takes off, it's all asphalt. Plus it'll be nice to be able to race in my back yard. Very Happy Very Happy
