Personally on the builds I do ... -12 from the block to the filter and -10 from the filter back to the block.
Makes it real difficult for someone to accidentally put 'em on backwards.
NO angle fittings other than High Flow hose ends.
I have used the FRPP right angle adapter for a block mounted filter in a lot of cases.

The engine already has one of the older style of this type on it. In this new car the steering shaft is too close for that type adapter to work.
