Id venture a guess mine is just shy of 1000hp n/a, then stick a small shot of mr frosty on top.............its been 7700.

Pretty tough combo, there is more to it that just crank/rods and bolts though.............

Yea I know there is more to it. I was curious what the company rates them. If my A headed motor is making 900 hp then put a big shot plate on top for a 400 worth extra, but only spining at 7500 or 8000 max rpms. I took my SCJ bottom end all the way down and cleaned it and noticed I had a little cap walk going on. 7000 rpms or less and 32degrees of timing is what it stayed at. I know there will be a point that the forged stuff will max out. Just thinking after looking my 2bolt block over. Smile

Whats the old saying... "Some people can break a canno ball in a sandbox"

Cap walk on a stock block is not the end of the world as long as its "under control", they will last a long time moving around, but you have to understand it will not last forever and becomes a consumable. But you definetly are asking a little bit much for a stock block with 2 bolt caps at 1000hp.

You could alsways 4 bolt the stock block for SOME added strength. I agree cap walk isnt always the end of the world, just letting you know your walking the line.

Ahhhh yes, Chuck Steven's signature line. In full it read, "Some people can break a cannon ball, in a sand box, with their bare hands."

Loosely translated, it actually means, "there are a lot of infintile, wannabe, freshman engine builders that are so blind and inept that they will grenade the strongest, highest quality engine parts to smithereens because they haven't a clue what they are really doing."

Wink

Some people may claim the chicken-or-egg scenario in that engine catastrophe, but I maintain that the OEM block failure noted in the above quote was not the block's fault. I was so digusted with the "half-story" reality of that thread that I stopped reading it, so I can't say for certain whether or not the entire story was ever fully disclosed, including parts being put into the engine backwards and which could directly stress the block as a result...don't blame the block for that.

Not saying there aren't stronger blocks out there; there are. And certainly, the more that an OEM block is pushed the more the risk percentage increases. Just be sure to use actual documented examples where it was truly the block's fault, and without a doubt.

If we all refer to the Chuck Steven's quote in my post directly above this one, then we can consider yet another altogether different reason why some OEM blocks live and others don't.
