2.5 and 5 ton ex military deuce's

Post  jones on August 31st 2011, 10:16 am

I am thinking about looking into the 2.5 and 5 ton deuce trucks. Anyone have experiance with these trucks? Is there a particular engine you should avoid? Particular manufacturer?

I don't know anything about them but I heard Ft. Polk is selling them for $1500. There is a couple running around Lafayette. Not sure of the motor size but the last one i seen was a small diesel.

We just finished a bunch of work down at Ft Polk. Wish I had known, I would have had the project manager bring me back one.

The 2.5t came with a few different engines. The turbo version was the best by far. I'd be sure and do your homework looking them over. Lots of different issues can be seen without looking too deep. Check the tires, brakes, and suspension over real close. Take it for a test drive and make sure it runs and drives like the lumber wagon it's supposed to be. After the driving test, check the engine for bad blowby. The 5t usually came with a big Cummins, or a multifuel turbo engine. The Cummins is by far a better choice. Top speed on them is about 45mph. Cool
