74 Gran Torino Rebuild

Post  NHTorino on Wed Sep 14, 2011 9:19 am

I recently bought a 1974 Gran Torino with a 70 Lincoln 460 in it. The 460 has a Edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock performer 750 or 850 I don't rememer and hooker headers. The engine runs but I have no idea of what kind of HP I'm getting. I know the 70 460 was rated at 365. Any guess as to how much more hp I have with the add ons I just mentioned?

Specifics

1. Intended use - Street maybe once in a blue moon take it to the open track just to see

2. Vehicle info (weight/gearing/trans)- 74 gran Torino Curb weight 3650/Don't know gearing/3 spd automatic/

3. Fuel desired to use ( racing gas/av gas/E-85/methonal/pumpgas(include octane available)) Pump gas i can get 93 easliy

4. Parts you already have / None but the engine

5. Proposed Budget 3k-5k

6. Location this may help to find a good machine shop Nashua, New Hampshire

I have a transmission and a rear end question. I don't know for sure but I believe the potential transmission/rear ends in my Torino could be one of the following.

Automatic
C-4, FMX, C-6, or a C-6 Special.

Rear axle
2.75, 3, 3.25, 3.5, or a 3.55

If I want to drive the car around town and once in a while run it at the track what kind of rear end should I be looking at?

Also once in a a blue moon maybe some highway driving to visit my son at college. 1 hour away.
