Exactly ... that IS a legitimate OEM application for a big block 385 series engine. The 350M/400 C6 was NEVER installed on a big block engine for an OEM application. Neither was the 350M/400 bellhousing.
They are 335 series engines and share the same deck height however, so is a 351C a 335 series engine which has a completely different bellhousing bolt pattern and deck height. As I have clearly said, ALL 335 engines do not have the same bellhousing bolt patterns.
I am not mentioning or questioning what will or will not fit; I am only saying what originally came that way.
It seems some people here don't understand the difference between what originally came from the OEM factory and what can be morphed to fit. One has nothing to do with the other.and I am trying to make the differentiation clear.
I can not remember when a car and a truck were thought-of as the same thing ... it must be something new.
I really don't understand the hostility shown here so, I'm finished in this thread.

I just read to "you cant remember" When did you start needing lessons in modifing OEM parts ? one can forget when back into a corner .

The center hole in the engine plate s 4.084 dia. and the flywheel has 176 tooth count. The bellhousing is 3/8 threaded bottom hole and 3/8 thru hole on top. A 10 tooth starter won't mesh, i'm wondering if there is a starter with 11 or 12 tooth gear available or if someone has had this problem?
yes 176 tooth count

Starter for my 429scj
Thanks for all the suggestions to help find a starter for my 1970 429scj. I was able to confirm that my flywheel and bellhousing were original and matched my engine, thru the Mustangtech website. I bought four different starter for 460's from the 70's and 80' to try and found a starter for 74 to 77 Lincoln to fit properly. O'reilly Auto parts was very good about letting me test fit all the different starter I tried this week. I was finally able to fire my engine this afternoon and everything sounds great.

If you ever want to change over to a high torque mini starter, I have a Summit Racing starter that has 11 teeth, and it worked great with my 176 tooth McLeod flywheel. It also works nice with a flexplate too. If you ever wanted to try it for the heck of it, I have an extra one that I can loan you for the "test", and you can send it back. These little starters work great, and it turns the engine over fast! If it works for you, I may even make a deal you can't refuse.
