Buliding new headers

Post  56Tbird on December 1st 2011, 7:13 pm

I've got to change headers..If I go with a regular type header, what size tubes should I use with a 580+cu.in A-headed engine? I'm really leaning towards building a set of zoomies. Is there any power loss with them? Thanks for any useful advice.

for sure dont use any 1 3/4 muffler shop bent crap lol. I'd think a zoomie would be more at home on a blown application.............if thats what your doing, if not then put a collector on it IMO.

Back when I was getting ready to do mine, I talked with Tim Murphy and asked about the zoomies vs. regular collector headers, and he said that the headers would be better in my application, not sure about an asphalt drag application, but I'd bet that the headers would be the ticket. Cool

Can't deny the cool factor of the zoomies. I think now would be a good time to get the blower mounted and then you would have a place for the zoomies. Twisted Evil

x2

Dan you can go to summit or jegs and buy a tube chassis header kit for less than buying all the individual tubes and fit it to your car....

x2 and I wonder if your headers you have on it were hurting the performance of the bigger engine you had in it.

Blake I had the 2 1/4" ones on it ,and it ran exactlly the same?? If this new one don't run any better ...I'm gonna throttle stop the damn thing back to 6.50 to where I don't have to wear all the safety gear!!

Coug ,I bought a set from Jegs. I'm going to cut the flanges off and put new ones on them. That's a nice header kit they sell.If you have a chassis car or a roadster. They worked real well on mine.
