what ford head is comperable to the chevy big chief

i have several friends with big chiefs and 632 inch motors that make our chit look stupid ? why do we just not have the interest

my buddy just built a 632 big chief with a small cam and only turning it to 6800 and made 1270 with 1 carb why is this ? its just fustrating

The C head is very comparable to the Big Cheif. I wouldn't worry about bench racing dyno sheets. Our stuff will hang with the chebbie boyz all day long.

i dont agree -there is not one single 4 carbor even 2 carbs 632 on this site that makes that kinda power unless ive missed something

The big chief is a serious player They come c&c'd from dart flowing 550 @.900. My buddy I race with every weekend runs them on a 632, it makes 1206 & 990. Its will take a C, profiler, thor to compete @ the dyno.

Rich Wilhelms (Circle R) 640 inch deal has that covered in spades. It's not a wedge head deal but will kick the fuck outta that Chevy.

Gerry,since you worry so much about the Chevy boy's,why don't you just join them,then maybe you will be satisfied.

There has been 3 big thor headed, single carb over 1300hp I know of. My 605 made 1247hp if I had more cubes it would be well over 1300.
There are a few profier engines up there as well. These engines take lots of cash to build thats why theres fewer. The chevy boys that run good are spending just as much don't let them b.s you.

I guess 'small' cams make more power
I guy could or could not belive the 1,270 hp # but you can bet your butt that the @ 6,800 rpm thing is bullzhit.
Here is how you settle this advertised hp crap......Phillip had a GM 632" deal down here last spring for a up grade...he dynoed it before it was torn down....it was 90 hp short of the claims of the brand name Chevy shop that produced it.

Just want to add my .02. My car had a Big Chief headed 615 in before I got it. It ran 5.20's 1/8 mile on motor and around 4.80 on spray. My A headed 598 has not seen the spray but it runs the same 5.20's at a higher mph on motor vs what it ran with the BC heads.

Are you sure he's not fudging the engine size a little?, maybe it's really a 706?

I am going to give you real world results for 2 12 degree profiler engines that the cylinder heads flow in the 550 range and 1 18 degree.

Al Peavler's engine- well known shop says engine makes 1230hp and 980tq. I completely redo engine cylinder heads and all it makes 1185hp and 960tq. Only problem it is now 3 tenths faster in the 1/8mile with 45 less hp.

Story number 2

Jb Strasswig's engine is suppose to make 1227hp and 960tq. so we stick it on dyno before i take it apart. Engine has 27 runs on it but is not performing to customers expectations. Wow it makes 1107 and 870 for torque. It now also makes 1180hp and 945tq. it just happens to be 2.5 tenths faster in the 1/8mile.

Story number 3

Tim Paap's engine is a 18 degree dart headed engine that the dyno sheet says it makes 1197 hp and 930tq. Well we dyno it before I disassemble and guess what 1040hp and 839tq. Do not have after results because I am going through this engine now.

I have proof of all these dyno sheets from myself and the other shop. I build Chevy engines and also love the challenge of them but a well executed c-head or better will run with them any day of the week if not better. A kick ass a-head deal will also run right with them. I know because I do it every Top Dragster race and I have customers with all the above engines.

You can't compare engines and the power they make by folks that are doing all out hp builds and folks that are building the same engine for the first time or on a smaller budget. Also money still doesnt make hp there must be execution. jmo

Gerry, they're pullin your chain. Seen that Chevy boast from a bunch of big name builders on the east coast for 30 years or more.

I can go get some 700hp dyno sheets for our 306 we did a few years back.............it dont make anywhere near that. Again what et slips are these guys producing? Comparing dyno sheets is like saying "I have a 12 inch cock"............but once you pull it out there aint no bs once you lay a ruler up next to it...................
