Distributor recommendations

Post  jasonf on January 9th 2012, 7:25 pm

I need to get a distributor and was looking for feedback. I have a 6Al in the car now and I was thinking of just grabbing an MSD unit but I don't have a preference. I was thinking the 8580 or 8577.

I had a buddy years back (brand X) with an Accel distributor that refused to play nice with a 6AL.. Had to rip the guts out and re-wire the pickup to the box.. Never heard any good on their coils either.. Question

I was thinking of going this route John. I've used stock in my truck back home, I have an Accel one in my 5.0l from years ago and a new msd in my bucket and never had problems with any of them so I guess I have just been lucky.

I usually go by the "if it ani't broke don't fix it" motto. That's why I use the Duraspark dizzy.

If I had a Ford one I would use it but I have NO distributor. I will have to go auto wreckin' or just buy a new one which sounds more fun.

Make sure the distributor gear is compatible to your cam gear and is the right height if using a factory duraspsark.
