valve settings

my cam card calls for .023 and .024 valve lash. With aluminum heads, what would be a proper setting to use? I have tried from .018 to .020 with no noticable difference

The lash given on cam cards is a RECOMMENDATION. Use whatever runs best with no more than .004" more than the recommendation. That will take a bit of experimentation.

The differences you mention WILL make a difference however, I don't think you will FEEL just 5 or so horsepower either way.
