If soup's crankshaft broke at the radius:

1] Poorly done radius.
2] Flexing in that area.
3] Both.

What would cause flexing?

Not bad. A little wear but that could have come from after the breakage.

But I'm no expert either. A few visible scratches and some dark spots but nothing that you can feel.

Not enough steel in the right place. Like mike said, the lightening hole in the throw could be too big. The radius could be too small or 'weird' in some way.
