Mods for new 5.0 Mustang

Post  dr's wife racing on March 24th 2013, 10:45 am

If any of you own the new 5.0 Mustang, what are some of the best bang for the buck mods.Looking for simple bolt on mods. This car will be diven 150 miles plus daily so need to be user friendly.
The Doc I work for bought one to drive daily and wants to warm it up a bit.I want to spend his money wisely becase I would like to own this car.He usualy trades when they get around 80 to 90 thousand. So it won't be that long.

It may already have 3.73's and with a stick that's plenty. Exhaust, CAI, and a custom tune will be worth it. If it doesn't get inspected for EPA, put an off road X or H-pipe on it. Best thing I did for my '06 was x-pipe. Those 5.0's are really nice. I have a buddy with a '13 with the 624 HP supercharger kit and it is stupid fun to drive! Very Happy

David willingham has a quick little 5.0. Not sure what he's done to it, but it'll move on. Give him a shout

Is this a stick car or Auto? The gearing on both the manual and auto are very aggressive, so as mentioned if a stick 3.73s are plenty. If auto, those transmissions stock with just a converter change are in the 9s.

CAI is very efficient on the 5.0s, not much difference like there was on the older 4.6 3V. Tune--VMP is good, John Lund is one of the best. They have figured it out now and there aren't many "number 8" issues anymore. Off road X-pipe, if you can, is good bang for the buck.

There are a few guys that literally keep the rest of the car stock, and throw on a paxton or vortech, and they run 10s all day long while being true, daily driven street cars with no weight reduction. Impressive cars.

It is a stick car.I think he's going with the intake and tune for now.I will look into the off road h pipe as well.I like the nos that looks nasty.Don't think he would go for that.

Cold air intake or the intake manifold (Boss)? If CAI, JLT is one of the better ones.
