Engine is finally in!!!..... UPDATED 8-23-11

Post  jbozzelle on October 25th 2009, 10:24 pm

Mocked up the heads and intake just to find out the headers won't fit without the engine mounts being hacked off. I can't close my 4" cowl hood either... I might look into some k-member spacers or a dropped k-member.

I also got my buddy over to weld up the majority of the cage and frame connectors that I had previosuly notched and mocked up. It was a jigsaw puzzle trying to figure out what to weld first, then next, etc... It took us a few beers to figure it out! We got it done though. The hoop dropped through the floor just enough to get to the top welds done.

Next on the list is motor and mid plate mounts and tabs, chop the engine mounts off the k-member, mock up the headers, finish the cage and do the floor. Then it's assemble the engine and put the thing together....

I would've dropped it off the stands and rolled it out of the garage today, but I realized I haven't installed the wheel studs in the front hubs yet... Embarassed

Looks like youre planning on going hella fast, probably somewhere in the 6 to 7 second range! You, Sir, are a far braver man than I.

John I only see one thing I would have done different !!!! I would have raised the rear cross member up 3 inchs to get the lower ride height in the rear end and give the car better transfer....

but thats just my opinion

Trans tunnel was missing when I bought the car. It's getting rocker bars and a dash bar regardless. Gotta be safe first. Randy, the backhalf was already done when I got it. I'll see how it all works out. Once I get it on the ground I can at least get some initial IC dimensions and see what it looks like.

Gordy, Besides that beer koozie all he contributes is a few grunts, farts and the constant "Hurry up and finish it so I can make a pass" comments...

Anymore I find that just getting started is 75% of the battle. Once you get going it aint so bad. The car looks real good Jon. Keep us posted on the progress. Everyone loves pictures Smile

You're right Travis. If I can keep it going it isn't too bad. Once I stop working on it it'll take a good while to get motivated again.

Here's a few pics of the engine mocked up.
