cam pin broke.....

Post  racinghabbit on August 19th 2013, 2:12 pm

I had a cam pin snap at 6000 rpm's the other day.. i tore down the motor and all of the valves are bent and all the pushrods are bent a little bit... i have good h-beam rods in it and i was wondering if I should worry about the rod bearings ?

If it's that far apart, a check of the bearings would not take much effort. It would be very comforting to know the exact condition too.

I had that problem on a sbf before.i almost fixed the topend but went ahead and pulled the pan.i found a piston skirt but no bad bearings or bent rods. Surprised

Good point....it'd be more like that 'it' would punish a skirt than a rod bearing.

And alway use lock tight, a Proper length bolt and bigg ass washer and make sure the snout of the cam isn't sticking out preventing the timing gear from tightening.
