The name needs to be changed from ford vs buick to ford vs everyone except chevy.

This was born out of the 5.0L vs. GN rivalry of the late 80's.
It used to be strictly Ford powered vs. Buick powered, then the Buick guys (who put on the event) were tired of getting their ass handed to them every year. The decided to allow the other GM makes to help even the odds with team Ford. That allows some LS cars but keeps most of the Chevy mouth breathers from flooding in.

The 1/8th mile thing might be interesting. This is a quote from Blake Murdock, the race promoter this year.
The finalized flyer mentions this website for race info, so here are a few more notes on the race. As everyone should know by now, the race went to a Pro-tree type of starting system years ago. I assume it was switched and will stay the same because so many Buick racers were pushing through the lights and/or red-lighting. Also, in an effort to get a few VERY FAST cars to attend the race, I am allowing (if the pair requests) a handful of 1/8 mile finals. All the other rules are basically the same, Example: 110 Fords qualify and 87 Buicks qualify, then there would be 87 heads up, pro-tree races starting from slowest to fastest. The remaining 23 Fords (in this example) would be paired together to race each other if they so desire. As always, the racetrack's own official will be doing the tech in, and will require all cars and drivers to pass all the NHRA stuff!

They need to keep the Grand Nationals with the Turbo Fords, and let the Winner Ford or Buick or two top turbo's Run the Winners of or N/A and Supercharged. That would make for a run Final Shootout. They all will be fast as hell and not many Chevy's would make to the Shootout, if they where allowed to enter, I bet. If all that is to much trouble, make a Ford Buick Turbo match with a Small Pot. You still get the GN guys whinning they only have 6 cly. though.

Forgot the nitros timer was se for 1/8th mile and the nitrois turned off 6.0 seconds into the run but still went a 8.20 at 161 and change. Sb deal went a 9.01 at 147, tons of street cars and the starting line was junk, da over 3000'
