Re: Freeze Plug
I actually went to harbor freight and bought a seal driver set and use one bigger than the outside of the freeze plug.

Re: Freeze Plug
The reason for the two tap method is that the normal pipe tap is tapered and will bottom out on the water jacket wall. Buy two taps the same size.
Use one to start tapping the hole till it just bumps the wall. Don't force it or you can crack the wall. Use some tape to mark on the tap how deep it went.
The 2nd tap you will want to grind the end of it off no further than the tape mark on the 1st tap. It's better it if is longer than the tape mark.
The tricky part is not to over tap the hole. It is tapered so go in small steps and check your screw in plug often. It is easier to test many times than to take out too much and the screw in plug will not tighten.
If you find out your 2nd tap bottoms out before you reach final size you may have to grind more off end of tap.
Once you have tapped the hole to size coat the screw in plug with paste thread sealer. Don't use Teflon tape you might not be able to feel it tighten and over tighten the plug cracking the block.
