What are you guys using to record footage of the race? Seems like they would be handy assist in tuning in the shocks, record gauges (class I intend to run doesn't allow dataloggers) etc.

I watched a segment on I think 60 min. w/founder of the company. He had some amazing footage showing what the GoPro can do.

I should send him my footage...If it weren't for the GoPro, I'd never have known what tore up my powerglide. Shocked

Plus the go pro has it on wifi setting to connect to a smart phone, tablet , or laptop. I used my phone to start the cam when it is mounted out of reach.

we have 4 Go-Pro's. we had some one editing the stuff last year but this year they have failed to do this for us. I just need to learn how to do this part. we have solid mounts to our roll cage and most tracks are ok with it but NHRA did not make us take them off but said that are not up to snuff for them. Go to Youtube and do a search for Nicoletti Motorsports also check out Raptors unleashed. (My kids Truck in Moab)

Editing is really easy. If you just want to cut out the extra video and trim it just to the action, that literally takes only a couple minutes. If you want to make a cool vid out of multiple clips from multiple cameras, its still very easy to do, just more time consuming.

That is one of the features I am looking for. I believe I saw on the go pro where the remote or a phone with an app can control up to 50 go pro cameras.

I'll break the trend. GoPro is an excellent product but another option is the Replay XD1080. Smaller than the GoPro, just over an inch in dia. and about 3-1/2" long.  Wink They also just came out with a 1080 Mini that's even smaller.

If wireless and such is not needed, check out the Mobius 1080p action cam. You can pick them up on ebay for way under $90.

I was reading on the GoPro site about the wifi remote control use with a smart phone.

So you can turn the camera both on and off using a smart phone ?

Wonder if it has a pause feature ??

Yes it will control all of that plus you can view the vids and pics and down load them to your phone also if you wish. they also offer a remote for the cam itself but to view the pics you have to put a view finder on the cam. One more thing you can view the vid/pic with the phone and vid while you are recording it . With Wi-Fi connection you don't have to buy the 2 extra parts which would run you another $140. You can get on eBay and buy the extra mounts and carrying cases a lot cheaper than what Wal-Mart has them for. I just ordered a roll bar mount for $7 where Wal-Mart gets I think it was like $24 here and a shock proof case for $11 off eBay.

That's good to know.
I did not realize it could do that much with a smart phone.

I see Summit has some of the "white" edition ones for 179 bucks. Might have to place an order.

I still have one of the first GoPros when they first came out, but the sound recording is horrible.

I thought the sound was crappy too...then I noticed that the sound was great when I put the camera on my helmet, but was really wierd when I put it on the roll cage. I heard all kinds of noises I'd never heard in a racecar before. The hard mount to the cage transmits all kinds of vibration into the camera's mike. So I wrapped a piece of radiator hose around the cage bar and clamped the camera mount on the hose. The rubber isolated the vibrations and the sound is good.
