I would speculate that the results would be similar to the artical...... It would nearly hold it all together but still be trashed

after reading the article and the comments posted. to me it looks like the 8k rpm killed it. why only 12lbs of boost? leave the rpm at or below 7k and just add more boost..? even though it had alum rods im sure that crank has a lot of reciprocating weight at 8k rpm. that's just dumb..

We do 70% nitro on blown Fords with OEM blocks and they live, and we're generating more power than the engine in the article.  Come on out to this year's March Meet at Bakersfield and see for yourself.

What killed the engine in the link above was: completely wrong application/setup of a passenger car block. Generally, the blower tugs the long snout, which see-saws on the #1 main and thereby excessively loads the #2 2-bolt main cap, plus a main girdle with stronger aftermarket studs (<-----BIG mistake there) plus the high rpm. If I were there I could have called out this failure just before the actual pull.

Judging by the pictures, my guess is that the #4 main web let go first, then the rest followed suit.  Had they stuck with OEM main bolts and kept rpm down, the odds of that engine living would have been ten-fold (excepting for the risk of cracking the #2 main cap).  Ideally on a Roots-type blower engine they should have 4-bolted the block while staying with the OEM bolts....especially when they attempted the increased rpm.

Yeah to be fair I should also acknowledge that an aftermarket block would have indeed given them all the wiggle room in the world.

With the OEM stuff in order to have a good chance of success one must have a good understanding of the correct setup and applications when utilizing them.
