Nitrous on max N/A motor

Post  Tennessee Bullitt on Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:47 pm

Question for you nitrous guys, I have read a lot on setting your quench to get the best performance n/a, I also saw where it was stated that building a n/a motor would have problems running nitrous. My question is how much is to much? I have the SCJ heads and going to be according to the charts at 11.7:1 compression ratio. Tunnel Ram with dual carb setup. Would I have to set the quench a little less for nitrous? Nothing major as far as the juice goes, I'd like to work up to a 200 shot but atleast a 100 or 150 shot. I know my rings would need to be a little looser as well. The cam is going to be the C460 cam Lem is selling.

if i were going to spray on a na motor i would pay the extra and get a flowed plate from Steve or Monte. They would give you the tune ups with the plate and starting numbers for timing would save loads in the long run. probbaly not but a 100-150 higher than a plate buy itself. Worth it in my .02

Oh don't worry I will get that when the time comes, I was looking at if I needed a slight adjustment or not before I assemble the motor. What kind of rings, I figure a good moly ring would be sufficent for the nitrous hit. The nitrous will be a grudge only use or once in a blue moon use. I know a nitrous use can last if all is set right.

I do not like moly rings in a n2o motor but under 150 you should be alright as long as you allow extra gap for the n20 hits I run the ackerly and childs HTD rings for my n20 motors

I'm running the Hellfire rings on my stroker with the spray. Two seasons and still no blowby to speak of. I'll be tearing down this winter to check, and will report back after that.

As for quench, I'm running a zero deck with a 16cc dish piston and a closed chamber head. The car seems to love the spray. A 200 shot takes it from 10.80's to 10.00's (best of 9.95)
