Iron heads or aluminum?

Where is total now?

What fuel?

progressive controller?

All this helps to know if you put it on the edge you will gain a little more than a book setting

Aluminum 290 port trick flows 110 fuel running 34 timing and a 1050. 4150 carb. Unfortunately the intake I'm stuck with is a torquer 2 for hood clearance. And running 10.-1 pistons.

With that combo I would set it at 26 total and a little fat then creep down on it and adjust timing as needed.... remember new plugs no idle time roll it to line and shut it down past the stripe

^^^^ I agree you should be able to remove 8^ as opposed to 10^with enough fuel especially w/alum heads as a safe point, are using a retard box? If this is a new test pilot effort be careful of the RPM chips and the activations nos doesn't like rev limiters.

Last small block combo, pulled the 8100 rev chip out when I juiced it and hit 8500 ...slept on the shift or the car picked up scratch Good thing the chip was removed or the internals would have been too!
