what does it take?

Post  nitetrain on November 30th 2015, 11:51 pm

the years are catching up to me, so I need to figure out if I'm gonna do this. parts I have on hand. comp shaft rockers, victor intake for 4150 style carb msd dist. 6al box, 950 demon carb, a 55 f100 that will get dana 60 with 4.10 gear, ladder bar rear, chizler diplomate front end. will run auto trans, but not committed to any one at this point. trk was going to have been sm blk/aod setup, but went to drag week and things just went south from there.am looking at p51s, pump gas comp. remember that this is going/ supposed to be a street trk. 2 to4000 mile a year. but would like to do the week at least once before I get to old. looking at 514/530/545 kits, what cid/ cam combo will make for a good street/ a little drag setup? also have a set of fabshop headers I will try to use also.

You are worried about the years catching up, and the parts on hand being used, but you are also willing to spend the dollars on the stroker kit...build what you want, don't worry about the parts you have if you do not use them you can sell them for the cause. Decide how much power you want, if you want power adders, and if you have a budget. Once you figure out these questions contact the member sponsors with realistic goals, expectations, and budget numbers, let them help you work it out and waste no time in enjoying your dream. Are you doing this to go to Drag Week... Because you will need to run low 10's and that mean's a roll bar... If just going to have fun then 11.50's and up is all that is needed no roll bar. Myself I run a 52 F1 472 runs 11.50's no roll bar... I have run DW 4 times this year is the first time not making the fastest 32 field in DD class... Class was change to a 10.00 limit from 10.80 and class name change to street eliminator... This is my mild build .060 over 460, a429 heads, solid flat cam 258 258 615 615, victor 950 holley, 1 3/4" headers,700r4 overdrive trans, 4000 stall, 9" 3.89 gear, true trac posi, 315x60x15 MT drag radials, dual stage nitrous 50 hp and 125 hp, 3870 with driver Best ET on motor 11.14 @ 117 mph 1.47 60' on hose 10.71 @ 127 mph 1.51 60'... Truck drives well and cruises at 70mph @ 2100 rpm's can drive anywhere if you don't mine 12mpg

thanks for reply, not a build for drag week, but if i can get things together would like to try it, at least once . i thought someone on here had run/posted about dw. way back in late 70s/ early 80s had a big block maverick street car that was an upper 11 sec street car, which was a fast street car back then. kids came, you know to drill. back then we went to cc street machine nats, was there when to canine unit got turned loose, but we didnt lose our cooler like a lot of them did. have had the old trk setting for a long timenow, thought i better get with it or let it go, just cant do the latter yet, will have 16.5 29.5 m/t on rear for street driving, would like to know more about your 52. thanks
