Fuel Tech, whats the deal? Empty Fuel Tech, whats the deal?

Post  jones February 27th 2016, 12:43 am

It seems like everyone is using Fuel Tech these days? What caused everyone to make the switch? Last I thought Holley had the best?

I see they have some unit's in my price range, but first I would like to know what made them so popular. Do they give their systems away or have a real dos sponsorship program?

I'll tell you what the deal is:

1) pretty much every car that has tried it has set a personal best the first outing at the track.
2) The customer support is second to none
3) They are crazy reliable and easy to install and use
4) you don't have to buy 4 to 6 different harnesses and use special sensors and such

All you need is:
$1749-FT500 box
$209 x2-injector driver for each bank IF using low impedance injectors
$159-o2 conditioner to use bosch o2 sensor from autozone instead of the high dollar ntk one most companies use (We use two for NA/supercharged/No2 engines)
$1200-I would recommend their mil spec wiring harness instead of making your own.
Plus shipping.

Add sensors and any ignition strategy you like. I can price everything.

I have been a dealer for them since day 1 and am very good friends with the owner of the company and the head of US technical support. If anyone has ANY questions PM me here, email me justin@2jmfab.com or call/text me 903-870-8109.

There is MAP pricing that we are required to follow so everyone sells for the same price. We are master tuners for this system as well as most others so support is easy to obtain.

One thing I haven't seem to figure out is how easy would the system be for a beginner like me? (No efi tuning experience)

What is it that's helping everyone set records?

Mostly it's the racer support so people aren't all by themselves tuning. The processing speeds are a ton faster than most other ecu's on the market. The precision of the system is just remarkable.

We now have a canbus egt module that will use pretty much any probe like racepak and arc.

The list of things in development right now is lengthy. Only disadvantage now is the limited inputs and outputs the system has but for most people that is not an issue.

Fully compatible with Aim and racepak dash over canbus. $1749 version has a display so it can be tuned on screen or via computer and be used as the dash. We don't have a single gauge in our car.

So do you have another box to fire individual coils such as the IGN-1a? How many inputs/outputs does it have? What about logic/events?

No extra box to fire ign-1a coils.

Currently has 20 outputs and 13 inputs but we're looking to increase that soon. How we set up motors with their military grade wiring harness the is only 4 extra inputs. That's where we are working with. You use one output per injector if utilizing sequential injection and use one per coil if cnp. Will communicate with racepak and AiM over canbus using no extra outputs.

What would you like to know about the logic/events?

The first 3 chapters are how to not:

1. Kill HG's
2. Hurt the Thrust
3. Save money on pistons

Just to add because I think a lot of people misunderstand about fuel injection is that the system will still only run on the parameters that you put in the ecu. If you put in a junk tune you can't expect the ecu to save you. Junk in=junk out.

Might as well put in for his suspension book too. He can make a car hook on a gravel road......

This is also good info to remember. My FI experience is limited to when I had a Cog YSI on a SBF running 2nd FAST stuff. I wasn't real patient then and didn't have the resources around me. Well.....some 16 years later (or so) I'm jumping back into the FI game. It'll be a slow process (starting OVER) but certainly thankful for guys like you who are willing to lend a hand.

I use MFI from Alan Dudley and Patrick Johnson. They are close by and I do their machine work, so it was easy to just use them for EFI. They have an events page. It allows you to create an event, tell it what you want it to do, and how you want to trigger it. One example is rev limits. I use the line loc to activate a rev limit of 6000. I can then tell it to delay the rev limit after the input is rising or hold the rev limit. I like to hold the rev limit on for 5 seconds or so after I release the line loc. I also use a lean out switch to take away a certain amount of fuel for warming the engine up. Can Fuel Tech do this? I like their display and dash compatibility. MFI is lacking good dash support.

It can do all that. Most items can be set to be via time, rpm, or by map. The terminology is different for each company so that's why I asked for clarification. That is all very simple things to do. There are more than any combination actually need.

Ok. They are supposed to come out with a new MFI box and I may give it a try as they are going to use the Racepak dash this time. If they don't, I may switch at a later time. Can Fuel Tech do a creep/bump box function with the transbrake and traction control?

At this time it will not bump but I've have that request in to the engineers and they will add it. It does have traction control built in or is easily hooked to a profiler box too. Racepak or AiM dash's plug and play.

Just released a can bus egt module recently so it will not take any inputs.

They are trying to get everything sorted with insurance. Yesterday he said he is already sourcing machines to get back to work. He is working out of their chassis shop which is close by. His house, machine shop, chassis shop, car/toter storage, and two more little houses are all on the same property.
