I have tried every hookup imaginable and the bendix won't work on this starter. It's model 9405. I can turn the bendix shaft out by hand but I have tried every combo available with zero luck.

The starter will spin but no engagement to fly wheel. Everything is with the required clearance etc. this starter has two major poles on it and then a small one. Finally I thought I had it figured out with a diagram on the internet that showed attaching the loop to the large one with the wire to the bendix itself and the other end of the loop to the small pole. Well it just clicks up at the regulator.

Anybody have experience with this?

I have not used this brand of starter, but I have used starters with similar terminal layouts. If you are using a Ford type starter solenoid, you will run the large gauge wire from the starter side of the Ford solenoid to the large BAT terminal on your starter. You will also need to make a jumper wire (10 GA) to connect between the large BAT terminal and the small SWITCH terminal on the starter. The other large terminal on the starter is the MOTOR terminal and should have a large gauge wire or bus type conductor going into the motor of the starter, nothing else gets connected to this terminal. We had the exact same problem a few years back with our 572.

Turns out the JW flywheel was manufactured wrong; the gear was offset on the wrong side of the flywheel. We only lived about 20 minute drive from their office so we took the flywheel back and they compared it to another flywheel sitting on the self; sure enough they made a boo boo. Gave us one with the gear on the correct side of the offset and it worked fine. We had the same starter you are using.

Thanks, I did this yesterday afternoon and it still didnt work. I think the starter is bad. Im gonna send it back to powermaster and let them take a look at it.

That explains a lot. Ive ran the 9505 XS starter for over 12 years and no problem at all. Im sending the ultra torque and my old XS back to themn to take a look at it. I also just ordered another XS 9505 from summit. That should remedy the problem.

They rebuild those things and ship within a few days.
