Kickdown Lever still frozen to throttle shaft by saltwater rust likely at this point. Soaked in gasoline diesel and compressor oil heated and re-soaked for two weeks to no avail. If you want to know how I finally got it to break free all you have do do is ask. After messing with this stuff for over 30 years on many frozen shafts in the HVAC Industry and elsewhere I wish I had know much sooner. The Old Timers must have been holding back a trick because surely a few knew it. It's so simple it is stupid, and is quick, easy and readily available.

Put a very heavy a very heavy coating of grease over the base plate gasket before you paint if you choose to ( paint it ) after bead blasting and Acid Etching. Wash gasket in solvent/gasoline and over spray comes right off.

Sand base plate on glass to check trueness of mounting flange. This one had a couple of high spots on the corners as shown in picture and I just knocked them down. You can go further and sand the base clear across if you choose but it is not necessary and very time consuming and I was kind of in a hurry to meet a deadline. I may go back and do it anyway just for looks.

I had painted the ends of the throttle shafts before they went in the Acid Bath. Surprisingly the paint held up. VHT makes some good stuff and the Dark Blue Anodize not pictured here is my favorite. 429 is going to get a coat of it now that I have seen what it looks like on Aluminum Valve Covers we Did.

4 or 5 things left to do and she will be compete.

3 Of the main items

1. Locate or fab lever for primary bowl vent valve lever.

2. Drill primary throttle shaft to install locking screw from where factory stake was removed to aid in restoration. May remove shaft again and install in lathe to get a perfect center (not loooking forward to that.}

3. Remove base plate install on drill press at correct angle and drill out broken throttle position set screw and  re-tap hole.  Don't buy used Marine Carburetors with the throttle shafts stuck especially with a Ford A/T transmission kick down lever and save yourself tons of grief. If it was  not a very hard to locate carb., I would not have done it. On the Up Side  I learned a Great Deal and really enjoyed the challenge. I also suspect if I sell it I will do very well.

Not the same carb. but, what it looks like in pieces. The only part I have never taken out of a Holley are the Emullison (spelling) Tubes in the metering blocks but, that is my next project when the new cap plugs come in. Never had to but, something I have always wanted to. It makes for a total and complete restoration. I am going to move up to the big dollar stuff hopefully like Shelby and GM original equipment Carbs. after I get my plating kit.

You Would be Surprized at how much trash comes out in the strainer after the Acid Dip.

Hot Sauce Bottle is for Cold Blue to save from contaminating so to save from contaminating too much chemical. Need an even smaller tube like a pipe but, I was in a hurry and grabbed the first thing handy. Don't drink to much at one time but, this stuff was about like V8 and pretty whimpy.

The nice thing about Carburetor work is it does not take much space, they are not heavy, greasy, or expensive, and don't take many special tools. Once you wash the solvent off with water and if your Old Lady is Cool you can bring them inside and work in the A/C and even at your computer desk if you want to, LoL. Cut many new screw slots that way and posted while doing it. About the only thing I like doing on a Hot Rod anymore is a Big Holley Double Pumper.

Getting a refill of 100% Argon and the throttle shaft will be Tig Welded back on. Will post pictures of the want to be Welder's work if it comes out good, which I am sure it will, it better damn well be after all this but, I can't fire him like UPS, LoL, you know who I am talking about Mr.R. LoL if your up and reading this.
