Race suits Empty Race suits

I have never bought a racing safety suit before and I was wondering if you had any pearls of wisdom to share? I'm a big guy and it looks like I am limited to just a handful of off the shelf styles or spend a little more and get one made to fit. I don't know if I would want a 2 piece or 1 piece? (If I was ever in a fire I would think I would want a 1 piece and all the dressings.) At what point do you feel that a car has got wild enough for you to step up to the next level?

I am only running a 600hp, nitrous, awd, truck at the no-prep events. The most likely failure will be the driveline.

Who makes the best suit in your opinion?

i had a one piece for many years... Simpson, nice a bit heavy...

When I switched to the two piece I realized how much of a pain in the a## the other one had been...

You can take the jacket off between rounds and leave it in the car or trailer, the one piece is either on, off or wrapped around your waist...

I like the two piece I have now much better.

I just bought a new Sparco 2 piece in May and absolutely love it. Definitely the best fitting and most comfortable suit I've ever had. Call Peter at Biondos and I bet they have a suit on the shelf that'll fit.

I have always wondered if you was in a fire if heat would come up from the bottom of the top piece?
I know my truck doesn't produce enough power to cause direct heat from the engine into the cab. It would be more like a transmission, engine oil or fuel fire. I'm starting to feel a little better about a two piece.

Is there any liner material to look out for?

I have heard stories of a man that bought a plain suit and had his wife sew his logos on the suit. Later on he was in a fire and everywhere they sew the logos of branded him because the string wasn't fire proof. So now he has permanent logos.

That makes sense. the logo material and thread was not fireproof so it would burn.

I have always had 2 piece racing suits. I like being able to take the jacket off between rounds.

Two piece is definitely the way to go. What I do is, just put it on in the lanes, when it hot, but when its cool, I can just leave the pants on and the jacket in the truck in between rounds, much easier than the one piece.

Another vote for Sparco two piece. I upgraded from a G-Force and there's a big difference. The Sparco is much lighter and cooler. And the guys at biondoracing are great to deal with.

The Sparco looks comfy. The Simpson suits look stiff and thick.
