His motorhome cylinder head broke off 2 exhaust ports and is getting one on Friday. He is in the outside parking and has his stacker with the daily driver but could use a hand just lifting and setting the head on the block. Thanks

This happens often on motorhomes when there is a "heat barrier gasket or sealer" used between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.

Be sure to use ONLY a metal gasket, (preferably just plain copper), with absolutely no sealant of any kind

No gasket at all is OK if the surfaces are perfectly clean and flat.

I have never seen a cylinder exhaust port break off like this 8.3 cummins. I am in seattle just relaying a message here and yellowbullet for frank as he has no internet connection. He is a Farmer from the north pole so he will get it fixed but could use a hand with the weight of the head( about 200 lbs) He said he will get the manifold surfaced.

I've seen a few of those 8.3 and 5.9 Cummins crack near the exhaust ports in odd ways. I'd be having a good look at the injector in that cylinder to make sure it's not over fueling too....Could be EGT related...I have a pyro in my truck and I'm glad I do, at least I can back it down some if she get's too hot and horny for my liking LOL

Got the head off today and every thing cleaned up ,ready to go back together!

Bigrig what's to hot ? I do have a pyro on it , and back out of it at 650'C ,28 lbs boost
just bought another $100 of Data
Need Torque specs head bolts , rockers , exhaust manifold

Frank I can get you all those torque values if you post up your engine serial number that's on the front cover. I'll pm you my work cell number and you can call me if you need anything today. I'll be at work all day so I'll have access to Cummins Quickserve but I have access to it outside of work as well. I can look them up by engine model but I'd rather use the serial # if possible. Good to hear you have a pyro, 1200F is where I back out of mine as well. If you have a infared temp gun in the hauler you could check the ports in question once you run it to see if they are a consistent temp with the rest. Just a peace of mind thing. Wink

I spoke with Frank this afternoon. I sent him some Cummins info via text so I hope it has what he needs. They are Torque turn bolts and there are a few differences over the years. He caught me just before I left work too LOL
