Lifters out to be rebuilt (Morel), getting new valve springs and a new Danny Bee belt.  Shop will check the bearings and replace unless thy look brand new.  Going to a run a leakdown test before pulling the heads to check ring sealing.  I think they are most likely ok as it runs the same as it always has.  If it needs rings then it'll be done as well.  Just a little insurance.  Pay a little now for piece of mind rather than run it too long and take a $$$$ risk.

Work to be done by Rick Pennington at :

Excellent engine builder for any of the Bama guys that need something done.  Located 10 mins north of Birmingham.

I would sell to get something new, but if it doesn't sell then I'll still keep racing it. The price I had on the car was taking into consideration the engine age/run time. Price will now go up by whatever the refresh costs.

That's good to hear about PSI. I had albert sonic test a block for me. I'm not from here but they are only a few min from my house. At the time all they had in the shop was chevy's an round track stuff, kinda spooked me. That project is temporarily on hold any way until I get my 390 back together. I actually got the call to pick it up today from tommy at Competition in Bessemer. Both shops seem like really nice guys.

They can work on most anything from Flatheads to BBF to 426 Hemi. It's mostly chevy just because that's the market in the area. They gotta eat lol. I was over there today and Rick was showing my a new build on a blown up 5.8L 13-14 GT500 engine. Wasn't much usable from the previous engiine. Previous one had ruined the block when a rod broke from a combination of rpm, boost and a canned "internet" tune. Also told me about a stock block P-51 head 557 they did not long ago that made over 900 hp.

He just did a leakdown on my 598. The rings are still in good shape. 7 were in the 6-8% range with one falling at 12%. The one higher may be to just a cold engine or ring gaps lining up with the low tension rings. Next is a tear down to check the bearings. Going to replace the bearings, rod bolts, valve springs and Danny Bee belt/seals.

Yeah, you are correct about the local market. The main reason for taking the 390 to Bessemer was at the time I had a project going on out there so it was convenient, to just take it to work with me and two, a fellow Ford guy from work recommended them. So far u have no complaints with either. I may use PSI on the next one since they are closer to my house.

Is Rick the one with the black nova? It's been a while their was three guys I met in the few trips I made there. I'm not that great with names.
