Hey guys,
I've done some searching on these two, but haven't found info to make me feel better about one over the other.

The engine is 9:1 460 with single pattern 233 at 50 with 113 lobe separation. D0VE heads w/ mild home porting. FPA short headers into a 2 1/2 dual exhaust to be installed into a 70 Cougar.

I look at the Edelbrock RPM and the divider is cut out. Would this reduce low end and throttle response? Are the port sizes bigger than the D0VE intake ports?

The Weiand 8012's divider is not cut. The smaller port for the D0VE seems to be of benefit to low end.


I'd assume that either will work good and there may be no noticeable difference.

Any thoughts on why one would be better than the other?

In a single word ... TERRIBLE comparison.
The Stealth, (with its absolutely huge area runners), will be OK and make good horsepower at higher RPM at Wide Open Throttle applications.
The Performer RPM will run rings around it at Part Throttles and throttle transients.
This has been the case in over 5 direct comparisons which I have witnessed.

The smaller port 8012 even has big runners? Or is it just small at the opening?

Either way, sounds like Edelbrock is the way to go on this engine.

Sad part is some make that decision based on dollar amounts rather than actual overall performance. I hope I am not wrong that most guys making less than 500hp use the average joe engine machine shop and when it comes to intake cut corners to save a few bucks. This is why I like questions like this and getting answers from pros like Randy. Someone is putting some thought in it before just tossing cash.

The #8012 manifold is basically the same as the #8021 but, simply necked down considerably at the flange.
To make matters a bit worse, that flange is "scalloped" so you can not even open that flange up to the CJ manifold size if you ever want to.

I would never spend any money on an #8012.
The CJ size #8021 works just as well on the smaller production intake port size heads; even with the mismatch.

Okay so, the Weiand is sucky on a 460 inch engine but what about a stroker? Does it act the same way or does the extra cubic inches make up for the huge runners?

Just as an observation I see a lot of guys not putting big enough carbs on dual plane intakes, especially on larger engines. A dual plane is going to want more carburetion than a single on the same given engine.

I ran a 8896 Holley 1050 on my 68 ford short wide bed truck. 472 10:1 compression Stealth intake with a 2 inch 4150 to 4500 adaptor.

230-230 hyd flat tappet .560 lift 109 separation. Dove heads with a competition valve job and ported exhaust port, stock valve size.

You could flat foot it from an idle and it never stumbled with the 1050. 1800 converter. 3.00 gear.

It quit pulling around 5600-5800 rpm. The more carb I put on it the better it ran, and drivability was better too.

They like big carbs................

I've used both the 8012 Stealth + The RPM + also the RPM airgap. I like the RPM Airgap the best . The Stealth I had no issues with but agree with Randy, would be my last choice
