Intake Hood Clearance Empty Intake Hood Clearance

Post  1EFF100 February 17th 2017, 11:49 am

Hey guys. I'll be assembling a 545 pretty soon for my '74 Cougar and will need to purchase an intake for it. It seems the go-to intake for what I'm doing is the Performer RPM Air Gap.
Have any of you guys with 1970s big Ford cars experienced any hood clearance issues with this intake?
I have measured and eyeballed the engine/hood area and it looks like it will be close--especially since at the very least, I'll be running a 1" adapter plate from spread bore intake to regular square bore style mounting.

Thanks.

I think the RPM has holes for both square and spread bore carbs.

I run a stealth under a 71 Torino GT good and it needs a drop base air cleaner. I think it's similar height to the RPM.

I would use the "Torquer II" with the 1" POWERCONE spacer on 545 cubic inch engine.

Thanks for that. I don't think I want to take any chances if it's that close.

Thanks Randy. Others have recommended the Torker II as well and I believe that's what I'm going to go with. I'll try that Powercone too. Appreciate it.
