Boss snout crankshaft

What is the main reason to use boss snout? Ready to purchase new crank but have fluidampner for standard length I'm already using. Also fluidampner is pretty old, do they go bad? Currently running enderle belt drive pump & alternator off of standard length crank.

throw the fluidampner away! the short snout moves the dampner closer to the front rod throw and takes whip out of the crank on the front rod throw were I've broke 3 cranks over the years . short snout for the last 15 years and no broken cranks
