Mechanical injection & E85

Anyone ever try to tune for E85 & mechanical injection? Thinking it may be somewhat easier than gas with the ethanol content of E85 ??

I have a friend that did it on his firebird to do drag week said he hated it mostly because it was so inconsistent on how much ethanol content you get at the pump

YES ... federal regulations only stipulate anywhere from 62% to 88% ethanol in pump fuel can be referred to as E-85.

Race E-85 is always a controlled 85% ethanol.

That's a pretty wide swing in percentage, I didn't realize it was potentially this inconsistent.

^^^^^^I've seen it higher out of the pump then e88. I take a tester and pump some into a 5 gal can, sample it and add unleaded to get it to e85. It's a little more of a pain in the rear then using race gas or methanol but a whole lot cheaper.

Not mechanical fuel injection but good old 1050 dominator on E85 for my 521ci in my 2005 Mustang GT. I have a 55gal drum I keep in my garage and when I go to buy E85 I bring 2 smaller 15 gallon drums and my 2 5 gallon fill jugs and pour the 2 15 gallon drums into the 55.

My car is pretty dang consistent depending on weather but on Sunday in the 3 runs I had the car ran 10.034 time shot, 10.043 and if I ran it out it would have run 10.040 but I went red by 002 so I lifted after the 1000' so I could have my data. Weighs 3570lbs with me in it and I run a small 28 x 10.5 pro bracket radial tire in the back.

My car is restricted though using an ez-plate under the carb since I only have a roll bar and not a full cage so I keep it 10.0 and above.

Why do so many people say this but I dont see it when I run out for E85 at the pump. Here in Michigan the blend migrates to 70% during winter months and then back up to 85% in the spring. I check it in the spring and always find it to be above 80%. Just last week it measured 84% so now racing season will have it at 84% or higher.

My take on this is that bad and incorrect news travels fast without that experience.
