Hi guys I need some help !

Looking for a good torque and pulling package for my 1985 Ford F-250 ext cab long box with 410 gears,
going to be pulling a 35 ft camping trailer all over this year. What I have for motors is a
1989 FI 460 that I would like to keep the heads and maybe use price Motorsports adapter kit and just
change the intake to run a carb, I see they also build a adapter to run the stock FI intake
to run a carb but then im limited on intake choice, trying to keep this on a some
what budget or else id have the FI heads ported and some bigger valves installed I have a brand new
Edelbrock performer that I would like to bolt onto this, from my knowledge this should
be a 9.1 to 9.5 compression motor? I want to be able to run pump fuel, put a straight
up timing chain and a good torque cam into this from idle to 5500. Any suggestions for
this combo would be great !!! Also can you run roller rockers under these ugly Fi
valve covers ? The transmission is a rebuilt automatic C6 and would like to stay with stock
torque converter, would like to stay with stock rods and pistons just put new bearings
piston rings and oil pump in should I put high volume pump in, running stock truck rear
sump oil pan.

Combo 2 would be, I have a 1975 460 carb motor that I know would be low
compression because it has the D3VE heads on it, was thinking about doing some
exhaust port work and a straight up timing chain also a good torque cam in this
one too. Was thinking of something in the comp extreme category for a cam any
recommendations would be nice. The only other thing I can think to do with this
motor would be to put a set of C8VE-E heads on it that I have, but
they have been ported and have 2.250 intake valves and 1.760 exhaust valves they were ported real well
they were on a pulling truck, with a 460 that was bored .060 over that had 14:1 compression and a big
solid roller cam in it they have double valve springs with also a helper spring and titanium retainers
would have to change the springs for new cam but try to keep the titanium retainers dont care if its a
hydraulic flat tappet or a solid flat tappet.
Not sure what the compression would be with the
C8VE-E heads on it,I dont know with the big valves and the port work thats been done would hurt my low end
torque real bad or not, they been ported to the cobra jet intake ports.
Trying to keep either combo on a low budget, I would like to stay with the stock rods and pistons
just put new bearings and piston rings and oil pump in, running a stock truck
rear sump oil pan do I need a high volume oil pump? Also I have the Edelbrock performer intake or would
I be better with something else? I have a stock cobra jet intake too. Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated, Id also like to run pump fuel in this one to. I knew this would be the
place to go to get my answers.

Thanks for any help!!!

It is all about how much money you are willing to spend as to what would be the best avenue to take.

The C8 heads won't have hardened exhaust seats so probably not good idea for towing rig.

yes it is on a some what kinda money budget, just trying to stay with stock rods and pistons and just put new bearings, rings and oil pump in and work with what I have for heads, the C8 heads do have harden exhaust seats and willing to put a good pulling cam in and work with what ever heads I go with to be able to run pump fuel. Both engines run well and are in great shape, just looking to swap a few things around I want a good strong pulling motor from idle to 5500 or 6000 would work great. Thanks for the help.

If those C8 heads are ported with big valves they are NOT a good option for a part throttle towing engine going down the highway.
Use the F.I. Heads, mill 'em .020" and put the Price Motorsports manifold adapters on them with a "Performer" (NOT the RPM), intake manifold on it.  I would build a Quadrajet for it but, the new Demon type carbs seem to run exceptionally well in this type situation.
Get a custom camshaft ground for it as most smallish RV cams tend to have some detonation if pulling heavy loads when at the best ignition timing.

You don't need roller rockers at all; just the correct length pushrods.

keep the replies coming I really appreciate it, I just really hate to give up on these C8 heads they have just such a nice port job and valves and are a really all around good head I hate to leave them sitting on the shelf. Was hoping i could some how be able to cam it to make up for the huge ports and excellent exhaust flow they have now. Dont know for sure they were bought off a pulling truck from Missouri, the guy said they were ported from Scott J from reincarnation Iam going to try and get ahold of him this week to see if maybe he marks them or something to know for sure he did the work as for the FI heads you said to mill them .020 would that be for the block there on now or for the older 1975 carbed block? I know I dont need roller rockers in the FI heads but would like to be able to. Can I mill the rocker arm pedestal and add adjustable studs and guide plates? And for the FI valve covers has anybody tried to run roller rockers with them yet The FI heads I have are the E7TE heads on a 89 block but ive heard that F3TEs on the 92 and newer blocks were better and had a little bit bigger valve in them, never know might just have to put the C8s up for sale and just do up a good set of F3TE heads and do some port work a little bigger valves in them. Used to running bigger motors in my old mud truck its just hard to step down to something thats going to be running pump gas and towing a camper. Thanks I really do appreciate all the help !

Hi everybody its been along time but iam needing some help with a build ! Empty Sorry Iam here to vent a little

Post  ctdck March 31st 2017, 8:56 pm

Iam sorry not sure if Iam losing my mind I forgot I got rid of the 1989 EFI motor last fall. But I still have the 1975 motor that I bought from someone I really dont know was told it had 70,000+ miles on it, I tore this thing down and what a pile they must have put valve grinding  compound in it on every oil change. I just couldnt get my self to do anything with this motor. To make long story short I was in a car accident sitting behind a school bus in the dark with the lights flashing and got ass packed at minimum of 55 mph, had neck surgery and dr tells me Iam unable to work any for at least a year so yes money is tight, the only thing I have to say is the man upstairs put me there for a reason.  I looked around and had to buy another motor from a friend its out of a 1987 motor home and has original   62,000 miles on it , would like to do a few mods to this before I put it in. By the way here is a few pictures of the 1975 motor that I paid $750.00 cash for, what a JOKE ! sorry guys just needed to vent a little.
