My first 1/4 mile runs this year.......

Post  ThndrChkn on August 13th 2009, 8:55 am

Most of you guys probably saw this post on the "other" site, but I'll post it here too...

Well guys, I took the truck 191 miles each way for my first and possibly only trip to the 1/4 mile strip yesterday and today... I made 2 passes yesterday afternoon/evening before they shut down the track @ 6:00 PM because they have no lighting for night racing... They had a big burnout contest starting at 6:00 PM, and I didn't get my 1st pass in until 5:00 PM...

This is my 1st pass off the trailer... As usual, my son Skyler did a great job on the video... It went 10.49 @ nearly 128 MPH... With a 1.50 60'...

2nd pass, I pulled 2* of timing out in high gear, but I got off into the marbles as you'll see, but still ran a 10.56 @ a shade over 128 MPH... With a 1.53 60"...

1st of only 2 time trial passes this morning... I pulled another 2* of timing out in high gear, for a total of 4*... And also softened the rear shocks a small amount 'cause I noticed it still had a hint of a hop last night... It went 10.400 @ nearly 131 MPH... It had a 1.49 60'... I'd say it liked the timing drop in high gear... And about as close to a wheelie as you can get... I'm glad I put them bars on... And it looks like it got rid of the bounce on the launch...

2nd time trial pass this morning... Pulled another 2* out (6* total), and picked up nearly another MPH... Truck feels great, launches solid, and gets lots of attention... Ran another 10.40 @ 131 MPH... With a 1.50 60'...

This is my 1st elimination rd. pass... Ya know how you get that feeling that maybe you should change your dial-in...? Yeah well, just watch me rip out a nice 10.37 @ 130.8 MPH, on a 10.40 dial-in... With a 1.46 60'

Well, I bought back in, but by now I was fighting a badly leaking drivers' side slick... So bad my son had to keep putting air in it until I went to do my burnout... This one I was just not fast enough on the bulb, I cut a .138 light to his .043... Had I cut a light from earlier, he would've been done, 'cause when I pulled high gear and crossed the stripe, he only had me by .045... Running a 10.39 @ nearly 131 MPH on a 10.37 dial-in and a 1.50 60' to his 10.28 on a 10.21 dial-in... Oh well, that's racin'..

I'd like to thank my buddy Randy Shaw for helping me at the track, as well as The 'Coug, and Blake The Snake, for lettin' me talk their ears off while I was at the track...

Oh yeah I almost forgot, the D/A was 6700' ... Very Happy

Cool! Great times, too!

Pulling the timing is interesting, seems like the engine really liked it.

That's really cookin, especially at the density altitude you run at. That yellow's gotta be helping I would think....

That must be it...! Laughing It sure gets a lot of attention... I think my gearing is pretty close for the 1/4 mile, but it's off a bit for the 1/8... I'm running a 4.56 now, and I'm trapping @ 6800-6900 in the 1/4, shifting @ 7200... I'm thinking of going to a 4.86-4.88 for the 1/4 and possibly a 5.14 for the 1/8... That's why I'm trying to sell my factory N-Case in the classifieds...

Nice runs Doug, especially with no air! 6700' would suck! Definitely a 9 second ride at somewhere like Windy Hollow. Cool

Thanks Steve... If things go right, I'll be takin' it to Mission, Canada out in B.C. ... I hope I can make it, as their altitude is only 25' ... This thing should rock then... Shocked Cool I'm hoping to be able to meet up with a chassis inspector in the next couple weeks and see if my truck is certifiable or not... It should go, but ya never know...
