Got the A head 598 all buttoned up, cleaned up and ready to go back in today.  Looks pretty good if I do say so.  Just got to put the motor plate, water pump and crank trigger on.

Thanks to Lem for the Jomar filters and Cometic intake gaskets.  Guy's, if any of you have not tried the Cometic aramid fiber (Kevlar) intake gaskets yet, give em a try.  Work great.  Compress very little, won't come apart and seem to be immune to methanol (unlike Fel_Pro and SCE)

Looks great.
What are the sleeves/extensions in the valley oil drain back openings for?

Keeps oil off the cam and rotating assembly, reduces drag and windage. Helps get the oil back in the pan where it belongs via drainbacks at the back of the block.

Thanks

Yes the corners are stainless set screws. Got them from
https://www.mcmaster.com
Makes intake alignment easy and also no rust/corrosion even though they are next to the water passages.

The aluminum vent stands were simply an aluminum pipe nipple, threaded on both ends. Cut in half and dressed up on David Willingham's lathe. Got it from McMaster Carr as well.

I'm not sure if the cam and crankshaft don't throw as much oil up those holes as goes down them.
