How bad do you think it may be?

No where does it say that they retuned the engines to have the proper fuel ratios and timing.
Any alcohol fuel in a two stroke reduces its life because the fuel travels thru the crank case. And alcohol and oil dont play together. Perfect logical reason for the rod to fail after that many hours
Ethanol normally has lower EGTS in a combustion engine than E0.
In the rest of the world, the top piston is the ethanol piston and the dark piston is the gasoline piston. Unless of course it if was running lean on e15 than its possible.

I personally have never seen and difference in where an engine rung e85. E15 is going to have very little effect if there was any.

Sounds like a big oil story trying to discredit ethanol.
If they want to prove using e15 with no tune changes are bad then sure.

I think the A/F and E15 tune was the major point of the article. There are still a lot of marine engines with carburetors out there. They did not even mention it attacking the rubber in the fuel systems especially on older boats either but, they did mention moisture problems in the tanks.

Ethanol does nothing to make gasoline better. In fact, it makes it worse. Food should not be subsidized as a fuel source.
