2009 Focus help Empty 2009 Focus help

Post  plowboy34 May 28th 2017, 4:08 pm

I am trying to help out a college kid who busts his butt going to school and working. He isn't your average young person.

When A/C is turned on the compressor comes on but cooling fan does not. Car does not overheat sitting in 90* heat at idle with A/C off anyways. There is a pressure switch on the high side of A/C that when I unplug it the compressor will turn off and the cooling fan will turn on. All relays are ok and cooling fan comes on otherwise. I am completely stumped and hope somebody here is a brighter light bulb than me. Thanks in advance

Yes on guages. It is low on freon but compressor comes on, it slowly climbs to about 200 on high side and low side starts and stays right at 12. I know it's low but I want to figure out cooling fan first. It does not cool at all even going down road but I figure with air going across condenser high side probably drops down to where it first starts which is right at 115-120.

pressure shouldnt be going that low. if you have acces to an ac machine recover and recharge then check further. A low charge can hide other symptoms. you already know the fan will work.

I think you will find that if you charge the system to the correct weight you will probably fix your issue. Low charge can create problems that aren't really there. I'd be tempted to check for a restriction on the low side too.

I considered the restriction on low side one reason I don't think so is when first turned on high side only goes to about 115-120 then slowly climbs as it keeps running without the fan being on. I guess I'm gonna try shooting some 134A in there and see if fan comes on. Thanks guys
