Let me start by saying, the pistons going in this engine, are among the heaviest for a BBF. They are Fed Mogul 413NP at .060 oversize. They are over 1000g without rings. Engine is going in 73 Torino, as a setup engine for future plans but I need it be fun and last a bit. I'm thinking max rpm for this engine would be at most, 6000-6500 with hydraulic cam and C8VE OEM valve size heads, with studs and guide plates.. Would like to see what you guys think, about 6.605 press fit rods options. Only options I could find are below. Thanks in advance.

(1) 37,000 mile D6VE rods (great condition) from 1982 460 Van
(2) Eagle SIR 5140 I Beams
(3) RPM 5140 I Beams
(4) ProComp 5140 I Beams

Dumb question, why not get a 460 crank and open up your piston options? And add a few hp in the process.

Heavy stuff is fine for a dump truck, but if your looking to spin it a little it's the kiss of death.

You really only have two options there.

Eagle discontinued their 6.605 SIR rods
The Procomp rod is just a re-branded RPM rod

Without question, the 5140 rod will be stronger than the stock rod. Material alone is worth about 15%, design may be worth another 15%. Don't let anyone talk you into spending money on a stock rod. Either run the stock rod as-is, or get the RPM rods.

The ProComp rod MIGHT be the same rod as the RPM, but ProComp will do whatever is cheapest. He does not buy from RPM, he goes to China and hammers them for price. If that means a rubber bolt...he'll sell you a rubber bolt.

The list of reasons I refuse to do business with those people is loooooong.

RPM used to offer a 4130 press fit I-beam with a cap screw that I really liked. Apparently, I was the only person using them, because they discontinued them.

Piston speed on a 429 is very mild, even at rpm. I'm not saying do it, but I ran my stock bottom end 1970 429 (came out of a '70 429 Torino GT); factory cast flat tops, factory rods -untouched (square cut rod bolt), factory crank, factory rings, factory balance...to 7000+ rpm darn near every day I drove the car for near two years. Those parts are pretty durable. Not sure how they compare to the parts you have but I'm just sayin...

He's reduced his stock a lot. I'd guess his business is about 30% what it was in 2008.

Obama was not good to this industry.

Not really.  In the short term maybe, but in the longrun handouts don't help.  Teach a man to fish, etc.

Thanks for the replies and information. I believe, I will just gamble and use my 37,000 mile D6VE stockers. I know them and they haven't been abused, being in a pastors church van. Just from reading and researching, it doesn't seem the options, for 6.605 I beams, have the best reputations either. Just going to double check clearances, balance it well and keep fingers crossed. Thanks!
