1970 Torino Cobra 429 Starter? Empty 1970 Torino Cobra 429 Starter?

So as luck would have it my buddy with the Torino is having starter heat soak issues with the new headers I just installed... of course it would, why wouldn't it? Now I want to put a high torque mini starter on it, but I have the option of 164 or 184 tooth flywheel. That's a 50/50 shot for me because I haven't got a clue. The car has a C6 in it. Anybody know which I should be getting? The car is about 15 miles away from me right now, otherwise I'd go out and spend a few minutes counting. Thanks for any help if you know.

Definitely good to know, but what about the flywheel? I'd hate to get one installed just to have it either hit the flywheel because it's a 184 tooth and the starter is for a 164 tooth, or just grind the flywheel because it's a 164 tooth and the starter is for a 184 tooth. Any easy way to figure that one out?

Thanks Rich. I did the unthinkable and Googled it. Got my answer from MACs auto parts. They have a great selection of old Ford stuff. They made a small fortune off a guy I just redid a 65 Galaxie for. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find the correct radiator for that car.

I've had pretty good luck with the Summit brand gear reduction starters. And you can rotate them, or clock them in different positions for header clearance, etc...

Yes Sir!! very nice!!....but being a real Cobra, I don't think I'd be modifying it!! Too valuable to be thrashing on. However with that being said...it IS his car, and he can play with it any way he likes!!

I said the same thing when I was first introduced to him. I told him to buy another Torino and build it loud and rowdy, leave the Cobra alone. He wasn't having that. I could tell he was going to bastardize it whether I helped him or not, so I choose to help him. At least this way as things come off and other things go on, the basic structure of the car isn't comprised. I pulled up some values of the car on the internet to show him and said "This is why you need to keep everything we take off this car". Thankfully he's saving everything on a shelf in his garage.
