I have a number of blocks I would like to test & it may make more sense to buy a tester & do it my self; then I'll have the tool for future use.
What price range do they run for something decent w/o getting crazy price wise? Any brand/model recommendations ?
Thanks, Sheldon

Right around $1,000.00 will get you a decent one.

There are cheaper Asian ones out there flooding the market giving inaccurate results; some are better than others.

I was only testing a few blocks and didn't have the funds for a $1000.00 tester.
I decided to buy a cheaper version.
I bought a TM-8812 unit (Chinese made) - $150.00 I recall
I did have to machine the probe end with a radius - as it came with a flat surface.(most important thing I did)
However, when testing the unit it performed quite well. Accuracy not worse than 0.002"
This was certainly good enough for my testing.
I tested the unit on several areas of the block that I could measure with standard tools to make my
assessment.

Thanks for the info; going to get one for work for checking glass thickness and I'll try it out on other things too.
Will let you know how it performs.
Thanks, Sheldon
