They're not to bad, the hardest part is getting the window off. It's held on with an expandable nylon peg that has to be driven out through a hole in the vertical guide. After you replace the regulator replace the peg in the window, center it in the glass and drive the center pin back in, then install the glass and snap it into the regulator.

Exactly what I did a couple of weeks ago on my stepson's 98 Sunfire. Bought a complete door w/crankup window No

Is the peg a dealer item only?
I screwed with it about 6 months ago. I remember my hands were scraped up. Finally put a cheap vise grip on it. I am getting tired of reaching out the door for my Starbucks and burger fixes.
One more thing, this car has no trans filter. They want you to change trans fluid all the time to prevent failure.

Mercury Mistake!

Hell the tranny is the best part on those cars.

They used to hold the recall record................that was until the 6.0 came along.

Speaking of windows my Dad has a Ford Contour he was coming home from the Dr. and had stoped at K Mart to pick up a few things .They happen to get trash bags that day he was heading home he said he was just going to let the window down alittle bit and if fell to the bottom. Then it started raining on him so he pulls over to try to get the window up and couldn't so he get a trash bag out and puts over the window.Start heading home again to get about 2 miles down the road to be pulled over by a dupty sheriff said he pulled him over for the black trash bag over the door he couldn't see in the car.Daddy said he was OK with that until he starts telling he couldn't have the black bag over the window and he couldn't help that it was raining he would have to take it off .Daddy tried to tell him as soon as he got home he was going to put it under the shelter until he got it fixed that the window had just quit working about 15 or 20 min. ago and thats all he had in the car to keep the rain out he was only about 5 miles from home but the dupty told him if he didn't take it off he was going to give him a ticket so daddy pulled it off and he is 68 years old. The depty left going back to town daddy pulled back over and put it back on he said it took him 1 1/2 hours to leave K Mart to get home and should have only taken but about 30 min.

Yes the peg is dealer only but you should be able to reuse yours, I've never had to get a new one.

I don't remember for sure but it should be either bolted or it's riveted with 1/4 inch aluminum rivets. If it's riveted punch the center peg out and drill it out with a 1/4 inch drill bit. To replace them you need a BIG rivet gun to pull them but I've used 1/4 inch bolts with nylocs instead, just be careful not to over tighten them and break the glass. It's also possible that the regulator is riveted to the door shell also.

My 98 Windstar windows has 1/4 rivets in it like was said knock the center pin out and drill with a 1/4 drill bit the nylon peace is 2 peace and snaps together so becarful when popping it apart and not chip the window like said use a 1/4'' bolt and nylon lock nut just snug it don't over tighten when you reinstall.
