Is this head considered a conventional head ?
Just curious as what parameters it calls for to qualify to be a conventional head?

If it will bolt on a Factory Chevy Block, has Big Valves and Flows more than everybody Else it's Conventional according to the rules the Chevy guys make up !!!

I would seriously like to know............. I hear this all the time. Conventional and 500 cfm just seem not to go together in the same sentence.
I am sure it's different from one sanctioning body to another, but I would like to hear one description.

Blake,
Where you in the room when Darrin Morgan was talking about Texas Pro Stock? Making over 1200 hp with "Conventional" BBC heads? I believe he mentioned doing it with 450ish cfm......

http://www.460ford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133325 <--- very good reading for Spencer on the P51 heads on a 562" engine.. I hope KY doesn't mind me posting that.
http://www.brodix.com/heads/headhunter.html <--- those are the heads from the Brodix site. They call them "conventional"...and I have no idea what that means in regards in how they compare to a stock-type head. They sure flow some air!

The BRODIX Head Hunter series represents the cutting edge of conventional big block technology. These heads are 100% CNC ported and utilize features such as, oval-shaped intake ports that flow an amazing 465 cfm and newly designed exhaust ports that flow 308 cfm with only a 1.850 exhaust valve. Standard features include an extra thick deck, high valve cover rail, and the best castings in the business.

understand we are talking about the guy(John Kyle) who was in on the design of these heads finish porting work. Not out of the box from Brodix.

That head looks to be a stock port entry height also, exhaust looks raised but it might not be, hard to tell.,
Looks like us Ford guys just got our ass's handed to us.....................
We don't have anything close to that in a stock configuration wedge.

Hey this is Spencer again.Just to answer a few more questions.First thing head hunters and big dukes are not allowed in class, and Deck height limit to 10.320 same as ford big block. Also i know what your saying about flow #'s i just brought that up to tell you guys what im up against.I know that a 500in pro stock motor doesnt require as much flow in the head if u have it camed/2 carbs/sheet metal intake/and 9500 rpm shift range. But if your going to have a 640inch motor with usable rpm and the right coverter Single carb cast manifold and auto trans(PG or 3speed)most will have to flow around 500cfm intake to make over 1200hp Both my 440 SB's have high shift ranges the C3 Yates headed Flow 390cfm intake at 800lift and shift 8800 to 9100 and you cant let it drop below 7600 or the motor wont recover back into HP range. The GV2 motor(440CFM Head) Has to shift at 9500 and you dont won,t it dropping below 8100 or its out of its window also. Thanks Again Spencer.

Me again. I made a mistake on last post Head Hunters are alowed.Big Duke Big Chief Are Not Alowed,The head hunters are were there flowing big #s 460cfms,----- My little Mustang weighs around 2870#'s with me in it after scaled and weight added,it has 1.24 60ft leaving at 4000rpms on Tbrake,Killing 15degrees for 1.5 Seconds into the run,You have to do this to keep from flying the front end on these stock suspension cars.(wheele bars Not allowed this car has drug the bumper at the 330's when all the timing comes back in). Then when you do this Its hard to make a SB recover back unto its HP Window.

Nice ride, Spencer! Rich (Boss429) should be able to help you out really well with the hemi combo. You'll get some of them chebbie boys whining about running a hemi, but OH WELL!
The broader torque curves of the BB's will help you with your narrow power windows of the SB.
