Question on C9VE-A Heads

Post  TS6034 on February 21st 2010, 12:28 pm

I just found a 69 Lincoln Continental Mark III. The car is almost rust free. The interior is in great shape too. I looked at the casting numbers on the heads and they are C9VE-A. The engine looks to be original and the id tag under the hood says 365HP. Are these heads good?

The car runs good. The guy drove it an hour one way to show it too me. I'm interested in the car because of the engine. A while ago I bought a 77 460 that ended up needing a rebuild. Now I'm thinking about buying this Lincoln for the engine and maybe putting the 77 460 back into the Lincoln.

I can get the car for a thousand dollars. Just wanted to know if it's worth it.

That is a pretty hard to find car these days just to harvest an engine... imo, and swapping them back and forth is a lot of work to gain a little compression and hp. Depending on when it was actually built... it could possibly have a D0VE A block, if really need for your application? If you are planning to rebuild the engine anyways, you might be money ahead to use what you already have and the $1000 bucks to get started.

My god that car is downright georgous and awfully well-kept for being 40 years old. Please, please don't take it apart! That is the cleanest example of a 1969 Lincoln I have seen in years.

If you want C9VE heads and block, I got 'em. Further, you can easily get a running 1969 engine for less than $1000 and you won't have to do the engine swap. Yes, the heads are identical to D0VE heads (I actually have a preference for C9VE heads over the D0VEs in some cases) and the block is your typical standard-webbed 2-bolt block (also one that I like).

I don't know where you're located but based on the snow I imagine it's far away from me....I sure wish that Lincoln were closer to me as I'd jump on it today and keep it just as it is...

Yes, yes, yes, better to use the $1000 to rebuild your current engine.

Now, where's the car? Very Happy

I think you should buy it and bring it to the Rocky Mountain Throwdown this year.

I will probably buy it regardless. I think it'd be cool to drive it during the summer.

No, I can't easily find a running pre-smog 460. I look everyday and have been looking since late summer. There's nothing around where I live. I search within two hundred mile radius too. Nothing.

So, where are you located? If we knew, maybe someone could help you find one. Idea
