10.5 x 29.5 section width

Post  Kens429 on April 7th 2010, 4:43 pm

I'm trying to find out if anybody knows the "real" section width of Hoosier's 10.5 x 29.5 on a 10" rim. M/T's would he heplful also. I tried W's before, and they were way too wide. The Hoosier tech guy told me not to trust the catalog. My current Hoosir 9x30's measure 13" section width. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw that on M/T's site, but wondered if the numbers were reality. If so, the "s" might be an option because I need a stiff sidewall. The car is a 3800 lb. stick car. The Hoosier has the same section width with 11.1" of tread.

The Tire store I deal with, Harlow Race Tire at Norwalk Raceway and Wayne MI, mounts and tests the tires themselves using the largest recomended wheel width for the tire and lists these revised numbers in their catalogs. They list the Hoosier 29.5x10.5x15 as 30.6"dia-96.2 circ-14.0 sec and 11.1 tread width when mounted on a 12" rim. The catalog says to subtract .4" of sec width for each inch that the wheel is narrower than 12", so that would make it 13.2" sec on a 10" rim. the M/T 29.5x10.5x15 is listed as 29.9"dia-94"circ-13.5sec and 10.2 on a 11" rim. So that would make it 13.1"sec on a 10" rim!. Hope this helps!

I'm not close to the car now but these are MT 29.5x10.5s tires mounted on a 12 inch wheel.

I just went out and measured my 29.5/10.5-15 hoosiers. With a 10" wheel they have a 11.5" tread width.
Is the section width the overall width of the tire from sidewall to sidewall? If it is I can check it in the morning.

f250Mike, yes sidewall to sidewall is the section width. That info would be great. Are you running the D06 or C11 compound? Which model number?

Thanks, Ken

Ken, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have been coming home from work and going straight to the shop.
I have the D06 compound.
With 12psi the section width is exactly 14"
