1st post, getting back into the BBF world....

Post  talonhead on Sun 18 Apr - 19:14

Working on a new to me 429 that hopefully go into a '89-'93 Tbird (I have 2 SC's. Have to scrap the auto one after it's given up all it's parts, as it has been abused....before I got it)
This will be a secondary project, until I get the other SC back together. It was originaly a 5spd., but am in the process of upgrading to a T-56 6 spd. and sliding in a another engine while I rebuild the OE supercharged V6. And searching for a '89-93 'Bird with a straight and mostly rust free body.

The proposed build: '71 429 block, JK-SCJ heads (need to switch to alum. to save weight), haven't decided on a cam profile yet. Trans will be a T-56 (can't help it, I love stick shifts!) The car will be my summer daily driver (my driveway is not condusive to car traffic in winter) and it will most likely have better milage than my 6.8L V-10! Not sure about rear gearing with the 6 spd. first gear is a 2.66:1
Ultimate end goal would be a very reliable SEFI performance setup.
I think if i could get 400-450hp that is reliable and very streetable that would be great. Any thing more would be a bonus!

Not a 429

Post  talonhead on Fri 23 Apr - 11:43

Sad Well, did some research today and found that the 429 is actually a 460.
Block D1VE-A2B,Heads D3VE-A2A, Crank 2YAB
However....it doesen't look like it's been bored out. ring land at top of cyl measured 4.355.
And it looks like a Comp Cams Magnum 280H10 bumpstick.
Pistons have a deep dish.
Looks like a low comp smog motor
